Afghans say US-led air raid has killed 22 civilians

Central America News.Net
Friday 4th July, 2008

Afghan officials say a U.S.-led coalition air strike has killed 22 civilians in eastern Afghanistan.

District chief Zia-ul-Rehman told reporters the attack happened Friday on a road in the remote district of Nuristan province, near the Pakistani border. He said the civilians were leaving the area, when their vehicles were bombed.

In a statement Friday, the U.S.-led coalition confirmed the air raid but denied any civilians had been killed. The coalition says the air strike was in response to a militant attack on a base and that militants - not civilians - were killed in the air raid.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called on foreign troops to minimize civilian casualties. The United Nations says close to 700 civilians have been killed so far this year, after being caught in crossfire between Taliban insurgents and foreign forces.

In a separate incident Friday, Afghan police say a roadside bomb planted by Taliban militants struck a police vehicle in central Ghazni province. At least two officers were killed and several others wounded.

In southern Afghanistan, police say gunmen killed eight officers at a police post in the Panjawi district of Kandahar province on Thursday. Police say the attackers threw a grenade at the post before firing shots

The area is known to be a stronghold for Taliban insurgents, but it is not clear if militants were responsible for this attack. An investigation is under way.

I would say Let them sought there own shit out. Stuff the pipeline and opium poppie and the strategic position for oil, Go green and make new technology FAST Make the energy industry local so !!!where!!!! not held over a barrel for foriegn troubles. The opium is Feeding the war... get out and let the taliban BAN opium(like they wanted to)we would save alot of lives in the west. Face it the taliban and the tribal system is what most of the inhabitants want!!let them have it, It is going on anyway as you control very little of Afghanistan. The U.S is in enough trouble itself without bleeding money and blood for oil and for the drug money to fight dirty little wars in the third world. I see in the news christians beating, killing, murdering and rapeing children in America why not send the military into america and enforce rule. And most of all if you want to find the people who are resposible for 9/11 and the MURDER of 6000 and rising human beings. Have a full investigation into 9/11 and find out the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth as you have no real evidence to blame anyone yet.

move your army into your own country and use the same excuse.
Or even try doing that where like China Russia or Israel.
And when some amphetimine junkie pilot bombs some of your women and children.
Are you going to say ...It’s called war, in war people die! end of story!
You sure your not a Nazi?
5-7 million dead civilians in the war on terror and you want more blood.
At what point do you say.. We have had our fill?!? Lets go home.
