ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 14 (PIA) - Three Capiz towns are among this year's national awardees of the Department of the Interior and Local Government's Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The municipalities of Dao, Dumarao and Jamindan were recently conferred winners in the 2019 SGLG during the awarding ceremony in Metro Manila, November 5.

The SGLG, which originated from the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH), is DILG's response to the clamor of the people for integrity and performance in public service.

Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Section chief Marecor Diaz of DILG Capiz said four towns here were assessed for the national level, however, only three municipalities have passed based on the criteria.

Diaz said that the SGLG is a challenge for local governments to continue good governance practices while providing better public services.

It symbolizes integrity and good performance of local governments and it is a continuing challenge for all LGUs to do what is best for their people, she added.

Included in the criteria are financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection, and tourism, culture and the arts.

In a press release, DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano congratulated the 380 winning local government units, composed of 17 provinces, 57 cities and 306 municipalities.

He added that the rise of the 380 LGUs "proved that there is good work executed at the local level for the benefit of the Filipino people."

Ano added that the increase in the number of LGUs that made it to this year's SGLG assessment is a testament of the LGU's improved performance. (JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
