NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro, March 24 (PIA) - The province of Davao de Oro, through a resolution, requested the Department of Education Region XI for permission to utilize classrooms in public schools as isolation rooms for persons under investigation (PUIs) of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Resolution Number 001-2020 of the Davao de Oro Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19 was triggered after the DepEd released a statement to exempt schools as quarantine centers.

The resolution states that upon their inspection, the classrooms in some of the public schools in the province are conducive to serve as temporary isolation rooms for PUI cases, since the those are built with comfort rooms inside with enough water supply, and are well ventilated.

"With that environment and amenities, the possibility of fast recovery of the PUIs is possible."

The resolution also said that the necessary preparations are now in place, including hospital equipment, for the pre, during, and post utilization of the classrooms, as well as the sanitation measurement plan.

It also ask for consideration and exemption of the Memorandum Circular No. 2020-02 issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government last March 21, 2020.

The circular states that the local government units shall not use DepEd schools as quarantine or isolation areas.

As of 10:00AM of March 24, 2020, there are still 11 PUIs in the province and 965 persons under monitoring. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
