MEXICO CITY, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 59 bodies were found in hidden graves in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, government authorities said Wednesday.
"The vast majority of the bodies, in which there is still some tissue or other sign, would appear to be young people, very young, possibly even teenagers," Karla Quintana, the head of Mexico's National Search Commission (CNB), told local media.
Excavations began a week ago based on a tip from relatives of missing people, and more bodies could still be excavated, said Quintana.
Guanajuato is one of Mexico's most violent states, as local criminal gangs have been paying attention to its wealth and energy infrastructure.
It was the largest such burial site found to date in the state.
