Kacper Przybylko's first-half goal gave the Philadelphia Union a 1-0 win over Saprissa in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League opening-round series Wednesday in San Jose, Costa Rica.
In the 34th minute, Olivier Mbaizo delivered a perfect cross from the right flank to the front of the net, and an unmarked Przybylko powered in a header past goalie Aaron Cruz for the only score.
The two-leg, total-goal series will conclude April 14 in Chester, Pa.
Toronto FC 1, Leon 1
A second-half own goal allowed Toronto FC to escape with a draw in the first leg of its CONCACAF Champions League first-round series in Leon, Mexico.
Fernando Navarro put Leon on top 1-0 in the 25th minute with a spectacular right-footed volley from the top of the penalty box.
In the 50th minute, Leon gave the ball away in its own half, and a sliding attempt by Leon's Andres Mosquera to clear the ball went 20 yards in the wrong direction, over goalie Rodolfo Cota's head and into the net.
The second leg will be played April 14 in Kissimmee, Fla.,
With the result, Toronto joins the Portland Timbers in heading "home" following a road draw. The Portland Timbers played to a 2-2 tie against Marathon on Tuesday in Honduras.
