SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, 10th November, 2022 (WAM) -- Dr. Victor Villalobos Arambola, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the United Mexican States, on Wednesday, opened the first International Festival of Mexican Dates in San Luis Rio Colorado.
Also present were Dr. Francisco Alfonso Durrazo Montagnono, Governor of Sonora State, Ahmed Al Menhali, Ambassador of the UAE to Mexico, and Prof. Luis Alfonso Garcia de Alba, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE.
Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, Dr. Armando Moreno Soto, President of Sonora State University, and several members of the diplomatic corps, experts and specialists in date palm cultivation and production in Mexico.
Minister Villalobos expressed his happiness for the valuable cooperation between the two friendly countries, the UAE and Mexico at various levels. He extended his thanks and appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, for his support of the festival and the development of Mexico's agricultural date palm sector. He also expressed his hope that this festival would be the first of an ongoing fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture in Mexico and the General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation to enhance food security and achieve sustainable development.
Al Menhali highlighted the fact that the First Mexico International Festival confirmed the depth of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the close cooperation that links its people, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, President of the United Mexican States.
He referred to the efforts of the award's General Secretariat in meeting the wise leadership's vision of developing the date palm cultivation sector at the national, regional and international levels, which contributed to strengthening the UAE's leading position in this sector worldwide, Pointing to the role of the award over fifteen years of continuous success in organising a series of international date palm conferences and date festivals in many Arab countries, with the support of Sheikh Mansour and the constant follow-up of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and Chairman of the award's Board of Trustees.
Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, indicated that the award has achieved tangible success in organising a series of date festivals that exceeded 30 in the UAE, Arab Republic of Egypt, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Republic of Sudan, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Kingdom of Morocco.
"This confirms the international position of the award and its ongoing role as a platform for building partnerships in the development of date palm cultivation, processing and marketing at the national, regional and international levels. This has been possible due to the award's patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed, Sheikh Mansour's support, and Sheikh Nahyan's constant follow-up," he added.
