MEXICO CITY, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 365,017 new vehicles were sold in Mexico in the first quarter, up by 3.3 percent year on year, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography reported Wednesday.
It was the highest figure for a first quarter since 2017, the agency said in a report.
In March alone, 127,352 units were sold, up by 1.3 percent from a year ago, it said.
Commenting on the report, Guillermo Rosales, CEO of the Mexican Association of Automotive Dealers, said that inflation for automobile purchases saw an annual increase of 0.29 percent.
In 2020, vehicle sales in Mexico plummeted to their lowest level in nine years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since then, the domestic market has gradually recovered following supply disruptions resulting from the slowdown of the global economy, higher logistics costs and a shortage of semiconductors, which affected the automotive supply chain, according to the association.
